Yellow Door are excited to announce that our prevention programme, the STAR Project, has been shortlisted for Best Education Project in the National Lottery Awards 2018!
STAR beat off stiff competition from over 700 organisations to reach the public voting stage in this year’s National Lottery Awards, which celebrate the inspirational people and projects who do extraordinary things with National Lottery funding.
The winners of the seven National Lottery Awards categories will each get a £5,000 cash prize to spend on their project, an iconic National Lottery Awards trophy and attend a star-studded glitzy awards ceremony to be broadcast on BBC One on 26 September 2018.
Yellow Door’s STAR project needs local votes to win Best Education Project. An estimated 1 in 5 people will experience abuse or interpersonal violence at some point in their life – STAR has been developed to reduce this figure and break the silence around these topics. STAR’s preventative workshops engage with children and young people on issues around relationships. STAR uses creative and interactive sessions to get young people thinking about consent, bullying, self-esteem, peer-pressure, exploitation, internet safety and much more, and ultimately aim to prevent the incidents and impacts of domestic and sexual abuse.
Frankie Snow, Co-ordinator of The Star Project, said: “We are thrilled to have made it through to the finals of this year’s National Lottery Awards. Through National Lottery funding, The STAR Project teaches thousands of young people what healthy relationships are, how to recognise signs of abuse, and where to go for help if they need it. We would love for people in the area to vote for us and recognise our valuable work for young people”
Musician, activist and National Lottery Awards Ambassador, Professor Green, says:
It’s thanks to National Lottery players, who raise over £30 million each week for good causes, that extraordinary projects like those in the finals of the National Lottery Awards are possible. All the finalists are doing an incredible job for the benefit of their local community and the work they do is hugely impressive. So what are you waiting for? Give them your support and get voting!
You can follow the campaign on Facebook and Twitter: hashtag #NLAwards / #NLAStar Project.
Voting runs from 9am on 27 June until midnight on 27 July.
